Why Read my Bible

Have you ever noticed how much we love instant transformation? It's the microwave over the crockpot method. We like information fast. I remember as a child being told to look something up. I went to the bookshelf in our home and grabbed an encyclopedia and thumbed pages until I got my answer. Everything changed in 1998 when Google was formed. We now walk around with seemingly limitless information in our pocket or bag. Our language changed because of this new found technology. Our answers went from, I don't know to let me look it up. This is only going to continue, but how has it affected your Bible?

As believers, we are called to be people about God's word. His word's are breathed our for us His people. Peter tells us, "16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." God's word is good for your life.

I have noticed in my own life that when I am emerged into the Word of God that I make better life choices. I am a better father, husband, friend, and pastor. When I am not hungry for God's word, I can be fleshly. I get short tempered, self focused, and inpatient. My goal for 2020 is to have more of God and less of me. I want to approach the Word like a crockpot. Slow and steady so I can enjoy the flavor of the truth.

What about you? In a life marked with speed, how do you slow down and swim in the truth of God's word? What steps will you take to ensure you spend time with God this year?
